Things to do in Rignac
Rignac is a small but lively town which organises countless events throughout the year, including outdoor cinema showings, a firefighters’ ball, the Mirabelle Plum Festival, as well as monthly crafts, dance and music fairs. Rignac is also home to the area’s chestnut conservation facility, the Aveyron Conservatoire Régional du Châtaignier, where visitors can learn about the importance of the tree to the ecosystem for free. If you’d like to venture out of town, but not as far as the nearest thermal resort or cave, walk to Belcastel, a village with cobbled alleys, ancient houses and a Medieval castle overlooking its stone bridge. For activities for the whole family, visit the small town of Peyrusse-le-Roc, which dates from the 8th century and features a variety of well-preserved ruins of towers, chapels and even a medieval castle.
Local cuisine in Rignac
In Rignac, there is a weekly market in the Place du Portail-haut where you can try the local Roquefort blue cheese. Themed markets take place every few months - there’s even a strawberry-tasting event - and in the summer, at the night markets, you can buy your produce direct from the growers' stalls and eat it at the tables provided. With its southern climate and great soil, the region of Occitanie boasts delicious dishes, including cassoulet stew with Tartes beans, a ‘left-overs’ casserole (Ragout d’Escoubilles), ramekin eggs (oeufs cocotte) and a spit-cake called Gateau à la Broche. So even if your holiday rentals in Rignac are self-catered, be sure to try the local cuisine.
